General Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years of age by the time you arrive to study at CELP.
  • If you will be 18 a few days after classes begin, you may also apply.
  • If you are unsure about this age requirement, please contact us.

You will need the following items to complete this application:

  • Valid passport
  • Credit card/debit card
  • Financial statement or government financial support letter, and letter of support from your guarantor
  • Paper and pencil for note-taking

Please note that you will be able to save your application and return to it later. You cannot progress if a required section is incomplete.

This guide provides instructions for every question on the CELP application.

You may see instructions for questions in this guide that you do not see on the application. Do not worry. This is a dynamic application, which means the application will change based on your responses to certain questions. This ensures CELP collects the correct information.

  • Are you planning to study the CELP Intensive English Program full-time or part-time?*

    • Full-time is 4 classes, 20 hours per week.
      • This is required if you are seeking or have an F-1 or J-1 visa.
    • Part time allows you select 1, 2, or 3 classes. Once you make that choice, the price you will need to pay will show, in green, down at the bottom of this page.
      • F-2 visa holders may only be part-time.
      • Up to the first day of class, you may change your mind about the number of classes in which you wish to enroll.

    Depending on what classes you choose, the price will update at the bottom of the page.

There are additional services that you may purchase for the duration of your program (4 weeks or 8 weeks). These services are purchased separately and, once selected, are nonrefundable, even if you do not use them.

Airport Transportation (Pickup and Drop-off) (8 weeks)/(4 weeks)*

  • You will be greeted at the airport by one of our representatives who will provide transportation to NMSU.
  • The distance between NMSU and the closest airport in El Paso is 50 miles or 80 kilometers.
  • Please refer to the application for the additional transportation cost.
  • If you choose YES I wish to purchase transportation from the airport to NMSU, this prompt will pop up:
    • Please bookmark this page: Flight Information. Complete it once you have purchased your ticket. If you do not submit your flight information, you will not be refunded the transportation cost and will be responsible for your own transportation.
    • If you want us to pick you up, please keep us informed of your travel plans so that we will be sure to be on time for your arrival!
  • If you choose NO, I DO NOT wish to purchase transportation, this prompt will pop up:
    • By selecting “No, I DO NOT wish to purchase transportation,” you tell us that you will be responsible for your own transportation.

On-Campus Housing (8 weeks)/(4 weeks)*

  • On-Campus housing is available.
  • Units are equipped with a full kitchen excluding dishes/utensils, and linen service is provided weekly.
  • Housing units are typically double occupancy, meaning you will probably have a roommate.
  • You will be responsible for damages incurred during your stay.
  • If you choose housing, early departure is permitted, but no refund will be given.
  • Please refer to the application for the additional housing cost.
  • If you choose Yes, I wish to purchase housing, this prompt will pop up:
    • Please note: when planning your trip, housing will not be available before the arrival date of the session. It will also close one day after the session ends.
  • If you choose No, I DO NOT wish to purchase housing, this prompt will pop up:
    • By selecting “No, I DO NOT wish to purchase housing,” you acknowledge that you will be responsible for your own housing.

On-Campus Dining (8 weeks)/(4 weeks)*

  • If you choose the dining option, you will receive 3 meals per day at Taos, NMSU’s all-you-can-eat-buffet, and $25 Aggie dining dollars that can be used at the various restaurants on campus.
  • Please refer to the application for the additional dining cost.
  • No additional prompts pop up with dining – so just choose YES or NO.

Total

  • The total will be the calculated total of your program plus any additional services.
  • Remember, payment is due in full on or before the second Friday after classes begin.

What Happens Next?

First thing to know is that you must click the Submit button! Sometimes students think they are finished once the $100 is paid. If you haven’t entered the receipt number in to the application and clicked Submit, you have not yet applied! So, make sure you have submitted your application!

Once the application has been received by the Center for English Language Programs (CELP), this is what happens next:

      1. Your application will be reviewed to make sure it is complete.
      2. If your application IS NOT complete, you will receive an email asking for additional information.
      3. If your application IS complete, it will be reviewed to determine if admission will be granted.
      4. If admission is granted, you will receive a letter of acceptance from CELP.
      5. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THE ENTIRE LETTER, ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM!!
      6. At the bottom of the letter of acceptance, you will find IMPORTANT DATES. These dates will assist you as you plan your journey to Las Cruces, NM. If you do not arrive on or before the dates indicated, late fees will occur. https://celp.nmsu.edu/polices/#FinancialPolicies

If you will arrive later than the dates indicated in the letter of acceptance, it is very important to contact the office to let us know your expected date of arrival.

    1. The letter of acceptance will advise you to contact International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
    2. ISSS will assist you with your immigration documents. Please contact ISSS for details. https://isss.nmsu.edu/
    3. If admission is NOT granted by CELP, you will receive an email denying admission.
    4. Once you have applied and have been accepted, you will be contacted by the CELP staff who will assist you with any questions you may have. Make sure you have indicated your preferred method of communication on your application.
    5. Closer to the time you will arrive, you will receive a ‘welcome’ letter from CELP reminding you to stay in close contact with us so that we will know your travel plans. The ‘welcome’ letter will also provide other important information, so read the entire letter, ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM!!
    6. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THE ENTIRE LETTER, ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM!!
